TL;DR
KMNO4 AI does not collect, store, or sell any personal data. Your API key is stored locally on your device only. We never see it.
1. Who we are
KMNO4 AI is a Chrome browser extension that provides an AI assistant on every webpage. It is developed and maintained as an independent project. References to "we", "us", or "our" in this policy refer to the developer of KMNO4 AI.
2. What data we collect
We do not collect any personal data.
Specifically:
- We do not collect your name, email address, or any identifying information.
- We do not track which websites you visit.
- We do not log your conversations or AI responses.
- We do not store your API key on any server we control.
- We do not use analytics or tracking scripts.
- We do not serve advertisements.
3. Data stored locally on your device
The extension stores the following data in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local). This data never leaves your device except as described in Section 4.

You can clear all locally stored data at any time by removing the extension or clearing the extension's storage via Chrome settings.
4. How your data is used
AI requests (Mistral AI)
When you use the chat, floating bubble, or screenshot features, the extension sends your text input and conversation history directly from your browser to Mistral AI's API using your own API key. This request is made directly from your browser — it does not pass through any server we control.
Image generation (Pollinations AI)
When you use the image generation feature, your text prompt is sent to Pollinations AI to generate an image. No personal data is included in these requests.
Page content
When you explicitly trigger the "Read page" feature or use the floating bubble on selected text, the extension reads the text you have selected or the page's visible text content. This text is only sent to the AI API as part of your query — it is not stored on any server we control.
5. Permissions used and why

6. Third-party services
The extension communicates with the following third-party services when you actively use those features:
- Mistral AI — AI chat and responses. mistral.ai/terms
- Pollinations AI — Image generation. pollinations.ai
We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third-party services. We recommend reviewing their privacy policies.
7. Data sharing
We do not sell, trade, rent, or otherwise transfer any user data to third parties. We have no access to the data that passes between your browser and the AI APIs you use.
8. Data retention
We do not retain any data on our servers because we do not operate any servers that handle your personal data or queries. All data is stored locally on your device and is under your control. Chat history and settings are deleted when you uninstall the extension.
9. Your rights
Since we do not collect or store personal data on our servers, most data subject rights apply to data stored locally in your browser. You can:
- Clear your API key at any time via the Settings screen in the extension.
- Delete all stored data by removing the extension from Chrome.
- Clear chat history directly within the extension's history panel.
